Illegal bar being run on pavement in Chennai

CHENNAI: A bar is being run illegally in front of a Tasmac retail outlet at Collector Nagar area along the Ambattur Estate road. It has been set up encroaching the pavement. A shed has been built on the pavement with tables and chairs spread out for customers.
The authorities are yet to take action against the illegal bar which is also an encroachment causing inconvenience to residents.
"We are experiencing inconvenience. A large number of people gather around in the shed on the pavement. They litter the place and urinate in the area. Residents, especially women, hesitate to access the shops nearby to buy things because they have to pass by the illegal bar." said a shopkeeper, on condition of anonymity.
People in the nearby houses hesitate to come out till 10pm.
"The residents who come back from work are wary of the fights and the commotion created by the tipplers. There have been several fights. We have complained to the police but they have not removed it." said a resident nearby.
On Saturday afternoon, the TOI found the illegal bar crowded. A few drunk were seen lying on the pavement.
An official said "We will act and remove the bar if it is encroaching into the pavement. We have not received complaints from residents."
